THE DEBUT EP
“Demise of the Exoskeleton” narrates and celebrates the rebirth of who I once was. Hiding behind layers of insecurities and rules I placed upon myself created a
malignant, but comforting, environment. It kept me small...I kept me small. But after years of fighting, my exoskeleton cracked and I won. I shed that skin and set it on fire. The buildup of power I created within my ‘safe’
cocoon exploded and manifested itself into these seven songs. Living in my own shadow taught me a lot, but now it’s time to step into the light. My light.”
- Mia Mormino
THE INSPIRATION
Bugs! Mia’s deep love and admiration for all things ‘creepy crawly’ inspired this entire project. “I love bugs because even the simplist of creatures are so intricitally beautiful. The textures, the patterns, the behaviors — I’m fascinated by all of it. Knowing there’s a whole other world thriving below the surface has given me peace and comfort when I feel overwhelmed in the world above it. Bugs live unapologetically no matter how much people flinch or recoil. They don’t ask for approval. They just are. And I think that kind of resilience is so empowering. If a tiny little creature can do it, so can I.” Sonically, Mia is heavily influenced by the soundscapes of Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Charlie XCX, Ashnikko, and more.
